Welcome to the homepage of the BASIC Programming Challenge. I have decided to hold this competition in honour of the programming language that was...BASIC.

BASIC was the language that was shipped with many microcomputers throughout the late 1970's and the early to mid 1980's. Such microcomputers include the ZX Spectrum, the TRS-80, and the Commodore 64.

What is the BASIC Programming Challenge all about? It is to see who can come up with the best program using pure BASIC only. Hence the "Challenge" in the title!

NOTE: I am sorry if you have been unable to send in your programs. I forgot to add the .au to the Yahoo addresses. If you have submitted an entry or entries already, please send them to the correct address. I humbly and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

I have given you another month to complete and send in your entries--see below.

5/8/04: Added Q-Billion and Snazzy Snakes.

2/8/04: Added 1-Liners.

1/7/04: The competition has begun!

17/6/04: The rules have been changed! See the rules page for more details.

What to write a program about:

For this year, your program must be a game. But it can be any sort of game you can think of. It can be a sport, board, card, simulation or adventure game.

When you submit a program:

Make sure it follows the competition rules. If it does, send the program, together with an explanation of what it does and instructions, as an attachment on an e-mail to bpc_submit@yahoo.com.au. If you wish, provide your name or nickname with your entry.

Emulator and source code files are welcome.

Dates:

Competition will open July 1, 2004 (gives me some time to set up this site), and will close October 31, 2004. Entries submitted after this date will be ignored.

When you vote:

Official voting begins November 1, 2004 and will close November 21, 2004.

Send an e-mail to bpc_voting@yahoo.com.au. On the e-mail, state the name of the program of choice. You may include a comment if you wish.

Please vote for one program at a time.

When voting closes:

The votes are tallied and announced. The program with the most votes is the winner.

The winner(s) will be announced November 28, 2004.

All of this year's entries will remain available for browsing and downloading next year.
